ST GEORGE Rowing Club members have returned from the NSW Sprint Championships with a record number of medals.
The club entered the championships at Penrith as No.1 and had 35 competitors take home a medal each. Their tally exceeded any expectations St George captain and dual silver medallist Steve Harrison had.
"Twenty rowers won a medal at this regatta last year," Harrison said. "Our goal was to beat that number this year.
St George rowers stood on two podium places in the same event, in four races, and James Chuter was chosen to represent NSW at the Australian Olympic Youth Festival next month.
Chuter will compete in the lightweight double sculls and quad sculls against crews from other states and international crews from New Zealand, Great Britain and Vanuatu.
