THE shores of Botany Bay will come alive for Rockdale Council's Australia Day celebrations on Saturday, January 26, with citizenship ceremonies, Aboriginal dancing and party band Jellybean Jam set to help residents celebrate.
Media personality Glenn Wheeler, who is Rockdale Council's Australia Day ambassador, will be MC throughout the day, with singing, dancing and lamington-making just some of the main events set to take place at Peter Depena Reserve, Dolls Point.
Mr Wheeler said the best thing about the day was that it marked a moment to "press the pause button and reflect on all the things and all the people that make this country so special".
"As an Australia Day ambassador, I particularly enjoy meeting the people who have chosen to become Aussies. Good luck to them!
Mayor Shane O'Brien said the citizenship ceremony brought a serious side to the day.
"I love the day, particularly since being on the council," Cr O'Brien said. "I really enjoy our citizenship ceremonies.
"There is no greater compliment we can be given than that people from other places want to be a part of our country."
He said it was also important to reflect on the diversity of Australians, and the impact white settlement had on Aboriginal Australians.
How will you celebrate Australia Day?
