SOME of their fathers played first grade rugby league, so it isn't surprising the defending champion under 13 Cronulla girls Oztag team was the pick of the bunch at the weekend's NSW Junior Oz Tag State Cup at Fairy Meadow.
The young team was unbeaten, and their defensive record was the best of the 230 teams who competed; only one try scored against them.
Their team included Bridget Fallah, daughter of former Western Suburbs hooker Allan Fallah; Taylah Mellor and Taylah Donaghy, daughter of former Cronulla Sharks stars Paul Mellor and Paul Donaghy. Not to mention Naomi Duncan, daughter of Hurstville police inspector Rob Duncan, the girls' coach!
The team has had a great run which began in December 2011 at the Australian Oz Tag titles at Victoria Park, Minto, where they won all their games. In February 2012 , they again remained undefeated to win the NSW Junior State Cup in bizarre weather conditions which included sun, heat, rain, hail and plenty of mud.
They formed again last June and travelled to Caloundra to challenge Queensland in a State of Origin series, which they won 3-0.
Now, they have defended their State Cup title — undefeated once again!
