Sydney’s rainbow pedestrian crossing on Oxford Street, Taylor Square may be gone, but many others are being planned for suburbs across Australia including Cronulla.
An online group called ‘DIY Rainbow Crossing’ was formed when the crossing, installed temporarily for Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, was covered over with asphalt last Wednesday by the orders of NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay.
Since then hundreds of people have been picking up chalk in a protest movement, creating their own rainbow crossings and posting them on social media.
On Thursday, a group of local residents will create a rainbow crossing in Cronulla.
Sutherland Shire Community Radio Station 2SSR 99.7fm will broadcast the development of the crossing during the Troy Murphy Show from 6pm.
‘‘Listeners can hear the progress,’’ Mr Murphy said.
The final spot for the crossing hasn't been chosen yet.
