MEN'S sheds at Engadine and Menai are among dozens of Sutherland Shire community projects to receive state government funding.
Other works range from kitchen upgrades in church halls and improved sports amenities to new children's playgrounds and bunk beds at a scout camp.
The grants have been made under the Community Building Partnership program, in which $200,000 is allocated to each electorate in the state, with an extra $100,000 for those with higher levels of unemployment.
Members of the Bosco Menshed Engadine must have been persuasive when NSW Treasurer Mike Baird and Heathcote MP Lee Evans paid them a visit early this year.
They received the $14,870 they applied for to construct an outdoor work space to accommodate a growing number of patrons.
In another allocation, Menai Community Services was awarded $60,000 to build a men's shed.
Premier Barry O'Farrell rejected criticism from the State Opposition that the program had been cut back from when Labor was in office.
Previously, $300,000 was given to each electorate, with $400,000 for those with higher unemployment.
Mr O'Farrell said the government was "living within its means", and the previous government had increased the amounts only because it was an election year.
Grants were announced by MPs Mark Speakman (Cronulla), Graham Annesley (Miranda), Lee Evans (Heathcote) and Melanie Gibbons (Menai).
