THE $300 million Cronulla Sharks Woolooware Bay development is set to include a state-of-the-art health and wellness hub for Sutherland Shire.
Development partners Bluestone group and the Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Club have launched a campaign to secure tenants for a medical, wellness, sports therapy and preventative health hub as part of the Woolooware Bay town centre and community.
The hub will be about 3000 square metres and includes a range of practices to create a comprehensive non-hospital medical and health precinct.
Bluestone managing director Ben Fairfax said national healthcare providers, group practices and local practitioners had shown interest.
"We believe Woolooware Bay can become the centre for excellence when it comes to non-hospital medical services, sports therapy, preventative healthcare and wellness and recent research indicates that there is currently an unmet demand for this locally," Mr Fairfax said.
"The shire has produced some of Australia's finest athletes in surf, water polo, swimming, triathlons, track and team sports and is currently home to dozens of different sporting groups for all ages.
"We live in a community that prides itself on an active lifestyle, recognised for the high level of sports and leisure activities, and it needs access to the kind of state-of-the-art facilities and specialists that many — from families through to elite athletes — currently have to travel some distance to use."
The hub would have four core clusters of services catering to the variety of needs within the broader shire area.
This includes a medical centre with general practitioners, dentists, imaging, nutrition, pathology and a skin cancer clinic.
There will also be a section for specialists, sports therapies and ancillary services such as chemists.
Construction of the precinct is expected to start by the end of the year. Registration of interest closes on Friday, May 31.
