ST GEORGE and Sutherland Shire residents will be given the opportunity to let Health Minister Jillian Skinner know what needs to be done to improve healthcare in the area.
Ms Skinner is hosting the first Southern Sydney Community Health Forum at Club Central Hurstville on Tuesday, July 9, from 6pm to 8.30pm.
NSW Health said people could "share suggestions, ideas and innovations that highlight what the health services in southern Sydney do really well and what can be done better".
The government's failure to allocate extra money in the state budget to begin planning a new intensive care and high dependency unit at St George Hospital is likely to be a hot topic.
A further $19.5 million was allocated for the $39 million emergency department project; however, senior medical staff and general practitioners had complained the rest of the hospital was "bursting at the seams".
The government's backflip on peritoneal cancer treatment at the hospital and demolition of Griffith House while saving an animal testing unit, could also be raised by participants.
Ms Skinner will be joined on a panel with Mental Health and Healthy Lifestyles Minister Kevin Humphries, NSW Health director- general Mary Foley, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District chief executive Terry Clout and deputy chairman of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District board Peter Gonski.
There will also be three presentations on healthcare innovation and services.
Reservations are essential.
