With two days to go in the official whale season volunteers have already counted 400 more Humpback whales than the previous best season.
In 2011 Cape Solander’s volunteers logged a record by counting 2,202 whales, this year the count has already hit over 2,600.
‘‘Last week we saw a Blue Whale and a Southern Right as well,’’ volunteer Wayne Reynolds told the Leader. (The whale may possibly be the same as the one in this earlier story: http://www.theleader.com.au/story/357321/is-this-a-blue-whale-visiting-royal-national-park/
‘‘Everyone is pretty happy with the season.’’
