NOT all of the estimated 85,550 people in St George and Sutherland Shire who have arthritis are older people.
Sharon Lee, 21, of Sutherland, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis eight months ago but has been able to lead an active life with the help of Arthritis NSW.
Arthritis NSW aims to "keep NSW moving" by providing education, information and support to people of all ages with arthritis and osteoporosis.
Its membership program gives people the opportunity to exchange tips, experiences and advice.
"It's just such a good thing to be able to speak with people who can relate directly to what you are going through," Ms Lee said.
A spokesman for the organisation said: "Many people in St George and Sutherland Shire take certain things for granted such as twisting a jar, tying shoe laces or opening a door.
"However, for the [estimated] 85,550 people with arthritis in the region, this is a constant struggle."
