Former State MP for Miranda, Barry Collier, will attempt to win back the seat he held for 12 years.
He has nominated for Labor Party pre-selection for the by-election which will be held following the shock resignation of Liberal MP Graham Annesley.
Mr Collier said many people, including Liberal supporters, has encouraged him to make a comeback because of their anger over Mr Annesley quitting mid-term.
‘‘It is almost unheard of for a sitting MP who is apparently in good health to just up and leave after only two years in the job just because he doesn’t like politics,’’ he said.
Mr Collier, 63, who did not recontest the 2011 election, said he felt ‘‘refreshed and reinvigorated’ after the break, and had more goals he wanted to achieve for the electorate.
