LUGARNO Lions Club members work hard every year to make their annual Spring Festival bigger and better than the one before. So, this Sunday’s event is sure to impress.
For a start there will be a record number of stalls — at least 240 — laden with all sorts of good things, including food from around the world, arts and crafts, plants and memorabilia.
As usual, there will be a large number of events for the whole family to watch or participate in, including a classic and vintage car display, full tilt jousting, dog agility demonstrations, Donnie Sutherland and the sounds of the Jukebox, various forms of dancing, African drumming, the Air League Band and Sutherland Medieval Regiment.
The children (and adults) will enjoy carnival rides, pony rides and farm animals, along with a roving magician and a unicyclist.
The state government-sponsored sporting expo will demonstrate netball, football, Special Olympics soccer, cricket and karate.
The Sporting Shooters Association will host an air rifle range and Peakhurst Inn will run a licensed area for those in need of refreshment — a first for the festival.
Another first is horse ball, a game of Argentinian origin played on horseback, where points are scored by shooting a ball through a high net.
The sport is described as a combination of polo, rugby and basketball.
It is one of the 10 disciplines officially recognised by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports.
Now in its 34th year, the annual festival attracts more than 40,000 people.
Venue: Gannons Park, Peakhurst, 9am to 4.30pm.
