The failed Liberal candidate for Werriwa, Kent Johns, has used his position as the mayor of Sutherland to confer favours on a woman with whom he has had a long-standing close friendship - state Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons.
Mr Johns did not disclose the nature of the relationship with Ms Gibbons, who is still serving a good behaviour bond for failing to declare her political donors, when he called in council officials and asked that action be considered against Ms Gibbons' neighbour, who had built a small but unauthorised water feature in his backyard.
Staff were surprised to find Ms Gibbons in Mr Johns' office when he gave this edict.
