TAFE students in Sutherland Shire have been hit hard by state government cuts, opposition spokesman on education Carmel Tebbutt says.
Ms Tebbutt, who visited Gymea TAFE with Labor candidate Barry Collier, said the college would no longer be able to offer the HSC to local students.
Other changes included art and ceramics students needing to pay full fees with no concessions.
Ms Tebbutt said hairdressing and ceramic permanent teachers at Gymea had lost jobs, as had commercial cookery teachers at Loftus TAFE.
Teachers in IT, adult basic education, numeracy and literacy and business administration now faced redundancy.
"So far across NSW the O'Farrell government has cut the budgets of local TAFEs, sacked 800 TAFE staff and increased fees last year by 9.5 per cent," Ms Tebbutt said.
