We live close to the wonderful strip of cafes and shops at the end of Clareville Avenue, Sandringham.
We often find that just when we were trying to go out we have inconsiderate people parking across our driveway.
On occasion, we have had to go across to the cafes and shops and ask if there are any people who own the cars parked across our driveway.
People who have done this will often then return to move their cars and abuse us, often using profanities and blaming us for having a driveway or them not being able to see the garage, driveway or electric gates.
Hmm. Was I under the misapprehension that this is an illegal offence?
On the occasion that this happened last week the police and council were called. I guess this wasn't deemed an emergency, even though we needed to attend an appointment, so no one came. Pity as this could have easily been revenue for council coffers.
The lady who had parked across our driveway this time was so very apologetic and I guess being elderly and well-mannered was somewhat embarrassed.
Today, arriving in the mail was a lovely letter of apology — but not only that: a $50 note was enclosed as a recompense for our inconvenience.
For the lady in the blue car, I hope you are reading this and please do come back and pick up your money. Your contrite nature and goodwill was plenty for us and has more than restored our faith in human nature and good manners.
Should you not read this, we intend to donate your $50 to charity.
