The typhoon in September this year delayed the delivery of granite blocks sourced from China which were due to arrive before the Gymea Street Fair.
The late delivery has left gaps in the paving on certain parts of Gymea Bay Road.
Tiling needs to be completed on the eastern side of the road, south of the railway line, and on the southern side of Warburton Street.
The progress report on the upgrade, presented at the November 18 meeting of Sutherland Shire Council’s infrastructure project and works committee, showed that all work was due to be completed by the end of November.
But Optus has committed to a December 4 change-over date for service cables fitted to Ausgrid power poles which need to be diverted underground through conduits.
Until the cables can be rerouted, the power poles cannot be removed.
There will also be points where paving cannot be completed as Optus needs to access the conduits.
The ‘‘practical completion’’ of the railway crossing at the entrance to Warburton Street was due by the end of November.
Paving works on the south side of Gymea Bay Road due to be completed by mid-May were finally completed by the end of August. A big achievement has been the completion of all electrical under-grounding works and switch-over of high and low voltage systems.
Do you think the Gymea shopping centre upgrade will be completed in time for Christmas?
