Kogarah businesses were suffering because of the new train timetable, a protest rally was told today.
Kogarah Chamber of Commerce president, Megan Barker, said several shops had reported a drop in sales of up to 35 per cent since the changes were introduced.
The rally, outside the station, was attended by about 60 people including some shopkeepers and workers who were upset at the 50 per cent cut in peak period services and elimination of express trains.
Labor candidate for Kogarah, Chris Minns, who organised the event, said that since the timetable changes were revealed, more than 8000 Kogarah station users had signed a protest petition.
Their concerns had been ignored by Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian.
‘‘It is time for Liberal MPs from St George to stand up for the region,’’ he said.
