A man, 36, was taken to St George Hospital in a critical but stable condition after a backyard chemical explosion at Engadine on December 30.
Emergency Services were called to the Mountain Street house about 2.15pm.
Police said the man was attempting to clean a backyard pool when chemicals were mixed, causing the explosion.
The man inhaled toxic gases and had trouble breathing.
Three people tried to help the man but they became ill after inhaling the gases.
They were taken to Sutherland Hospital.
Fire and Rescue NSW Hazmat crews worked to stabilise the area before declaring it safe.
