Carina El Saouda, who has three children, aged 2 to 15, began an on-line petition in protest against the council’s ‘‘lack of action’’.
The petition has attracted about 7000 signatures so far.
Ms El Saouda, accompanied to the meeting by independent councillor Michael Nagi, said she believed progress was being made.
‘‘Shane O’Brien said they would review the signage,’’ she said.
‘‘When we went into the meeting, he indicated nothing was likely to happen before the inquest.
‘‘We said an inquest might not be held for 12-18 months and that would be far too long.’’
Cr O’Brien said council officers were gathering information and reviewing signs about sand movement in the area; the council installed the signs in 2007.
However, he was concerned that installing signs in one area could give the false impression that other sites were safe.
