SENIORS
■ Ashlee Ankudinoff, 23, of Menai represented NSW and Australia at the nationals and world championships.
■ Anthony Mundine, 38, of Blakehurst outboxed six-time world champion Shane Mosley before the American quit in the sixth round because of back spasms at Allphones Arena, Olympic Park.
■ Matt Spence, 21, from the NC Aquatic Club at North Cronulla and swimming as part of the University of NSW No.1-ranked team won four gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Australian University Games at the Gold Coast's Southport School. Matt also won individual silver in the open mens 50m freestyle in Perth as a member of the Cronulla Polar Bears mens swimming team.
■ Mitch Parkes, 24, of Sutherland recently captained the Australian Royal Life Saving team to win the 2013 Commonwealth Pool Life Saving Championships held in Canberra. Australia competed against leading nations such as England, Canada and South Africa. Mitch claimed four gold, one silver and one bronze medal. He has been selected in the combined Royal Life Saving and Surf Life Saving Australian team to compete in several international pool lifesaving competitions in Germany and Belgium as part of Australia's lead-up to the 2014 World Life Saving Championships.
DISABLED ATHLETES
■ Kyle McIntosh, 19, of Grays Point won gold at the NSW Catholic Cross Country Championships; gold at the NSW All Schools Cross Country titles; won the School Sports Australia Championships in Tasmania; won 800 metres gold at the NSW CCC Athletics and NSW All Schools Athletics Championships and bronze at the NSW All Schools Athletics Championship in the able-bodied 1500m event.
MASTERS
■Gaye Lynn, 65, of Burraneer was a dual world champion in the 2013 Time Trial and Road Race; triple national champion (Time Trial, Criterium and Road Race); triple state champion after setting the world's fastest time in the 2km pursuit (for Masters 8 competitors).
■Peter Sheean, 69, of Caringbah competed in the swimming and indoor rowing events at the Australian Masters Games in Geelong and won seven medals in the swimming events (gold in the 200m backstroke, three silver and three bronze), and three medals at the indoor rowing (gold in the 2000m and two silver). He won two gold and a silver at the National Indoor Rowing Championships in Wollongong.
JUNIORS
■Jordan Baker, 17, of Kirrawee signed a contract with Western Sydney Wanderers and made her debut as a year 11 Kirrawee High student.
■Mia Toohey, 7, of Burraneer and a Sutherland Little Athletics Club member won gold at the NSW Little Athletics State Cross Country Championships at Scheyville National Park. This capped off a great season for Mia who won gold at the NSW State Little Athletics Multi Event Championships held at Orange earlier in the year.
■Oliver Hoare, 16, of Caringbah completed a successful year by winning the 16 years 6km at the All Schools Cross Country Championship, earning him selection for the nationals in Tasmania. This followed wins in the U17 2km beach run at Australian Surf Life Saving Club Championships; third in U18 NSW State long course cross country and gold in U18 NSW State Short Course. On the track, he won the open 3000m and 15yrs 1500m where he broke a long-standing record at the recent CAS Athletic carnival.
■Isaac Humphries, 15, of Gymea represented Australia against New Zealand in Melbourne at the FIBA Oceania World Cup qualifiers, where they won gold. He had played in China and Los Angeles with the Australian Institute of Sport national teams, and narrowly lost the final of the national titles in Adelaide, playing for NSW.
SCHOOL TEAMS
■Kirrawee High Water Polo teams of Kirrawee; the men's and women's teams are 2013 NSWCHS state champions; the women's for the 14th year in a row.
JUNIOR TEAMS
■Mortdale Physical Culture Club's 11-12 year girls won their section of the Bjelke Petersen School of Physical Culture annual competitions against teams from NSW and Queensland, then competed and beat the Mt Ousley and Menai clubs (who had won their sections) to become overall champions in championship grade after rising from B and A grades in previous years.
■Sutherland Shire Futsal U/12 Girls State League of Lugarno will play in the Football NSW Super League Futsal comp (second tier behind Premier League) after competing in the recent Football NSW Futsal State Championships at Penrith. They won the three pool games on a Saturday, including one against a Premier League team, scoring 23 goals and conceding zero, and on a Sunday won their final pool match against another Premier League team, Enfield, 3-1, then beat Mascot Vipers, another Premier League side, in the quarter final, 3-1, then beat the Western NSW team in the semi, 4-2, and beat Premier League heavyweights Dural Warriors, 5-4, in the grand final.
SENIOR TEAMS
■Sydney Sharks Hockey Over 40s of Menai won gold medal at international world masters games 2013, duplicating their win in that tournament four years earlier.
SPORTS CLUB
■Arncliffe Surora FC of Arncliffe Park had 13 out of 18 competition teams make their semi-finals; seven made the grand final and four became premiers.
