THE inspirational movie version of The Lilies of the Field won an Academy Award for Sidney Poitier in 1964.
Now, The Lilies of the Field is returning to the stage in a new production by the Rockdale-based Guild Theatre.
In the film, Sir Sidney played a drifter who helped to build a chapel for some nuns who had escaped from East Germany.
The Guild Theatre, which punningly claims to be "in the habit" of presenting first-class live theatre, describes its new play as "an inspiring story of hard work, faith and good humour".
Bill Ayers will direct the play with cast members Phillip Chaffey, Cynthia Delaney, George Gleeson, Ben Goodyear, Denise Kitching, Caitlin McDowell, Darren McDowell, Jennifer Tansey, Adrian Thompson and Catherine Waters.
The play will be performed in Walz Street, Rockdale, from Friday, February 7, until Saturday, March 8.
Ticket bookings: 9521 6358, Mondays to Saturdays. 9am to 5pm.
