THE non-profit organisation Australian Organic has launched a campaign to educate consumers on how to buy "100 per cent honest" organic products.
The One Logo Says It All campaign encourages people to look for the recognisable Australian Certified Organic logo when buying products labelled organic.
The logo only appears on products the Australian Organic's independent certification agency has deemed as certified organic.
More than 14,000 products in Australia have the logo, including baby food, breads, wine, makeup, skin care, clothing, textiles and meat and dairy products.
The Australian Certified Organic certification program was established in the late 1980s in response to a lack of legislation recognising the term "organic", said Dr Andrew Monk, of Australian Organic.
During the past few decades the program has grown to be included on most organic products on the shelves.
"Interest and popularity in organic products grows every year and it's more important than ever that we play an active role in protecting all Australians by ensuring they know how to trust that they're buying bona fide certified organic products.
"Australian Certified Organic routinely and randomly audits businesses that use its logo and tests products in the marketplace.
"Look for the logo and you know you're buying a sustainable, environmentally-friendly and healthy product. This one logo really does say it all."
