OLYMPIC gold medal winner Suzy Balogh is the new national coaching director and coach of the Australian Clay Target Association, at Menai.
Balogh, who won gold in the women's trap shooting at the 2004 Athens Olympics, said she was thrilled with the new job. Balogh, 40, is preparing for a third Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, July 23 to August 3.
She said the job would involve coach development and accreditation, coaching of a talented youth group and enhancing the skills and competitiveness of men and women clay target shooters throughout Australia.
For now, her eyes are fixed on the target at Glasgow.
Balogh won a bronze at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and gold in Melbourne in 2006. She is the leading contender in the women's Olympic double trap for the Australian team to be selected for Glasgow.
"The final selection for Glasgow is at the end of April," Balogh said. "They select two women in my event and if I do well at the final selection event in Adelaide mid-March I'll be going to Glasgow."
Balogh said the motivation remained strong for international competition. In 2013, Balogh was consistent at major competitions finishing ninth at the World Championships in Peru, the highest ranked Australian woman at that event. She will compete at World Cups in Tuscon in April and Munich in May.
Balogh who owns a business, Hitting Targets, teaching shooters the skills and running corporate programs, works out of Australian Sporting Clays Sydney at Menai.
"After attending courses late last year in Finland, I am now one of two people in Australia that have the International Sports Shooting Federation Shotgun coaching licence approved by the International Olympic Committee," Balogh said.
