THE strong Cronulla Oztag club again proved one of the top clubs in the state when the NSW Junior Oztag Championships were finalised after three days at Thomas Dalton Park, Wollongong.
The 2013 Junior Oztag titles were the biggest ever with 273 teams and 4350 players (9-17 years) across the state.
Cronulla won four girls and two boys divisions, with their success highlighted by the Cronulla Girls champion 14 years team.
Cronulla's 2-0 win over the ACT means their players have been undefeated since their team formation in 2011, through four Australian and state titles (more than 30 games without a loss or a draw).
With players including the daughters of former league stars Alan Fallah and Kurt Wrigley, the girls scored 50 tries in nine games over the weekend — and only conceded one try, just like last year.
"This gave them the best defensive record of all 273 teams that competed," said a proud coach, Detective Inspector Rob Duncan.
The team sponsored by Hogs Breath Cronulla will now represent NSW in a tri-series against Queensland and ACT in May in Canberra. St George girls 11s inflicted a rare finals defeat on their Cronulla neighbours, beating them 1-0 after failing to win a game the previous year. Saints also will represent NSW in May.
