SHOPKEEPERS will be given a welcome economic boost following the lengthy delays during the $6 million upgrade of Gymea Shopping Village.
Sutherland Shire Council is extending its gift card promotion to stimulate the Gymea economy, hoping to repeat the success of past promotions in Cronulla CBD.
The promotion should be welcome news for Gymea shopkeepers, who have endured disruptions to traffic and pedestrian flow as a result of the footpath upgrade.
Under the program, Gymea shoppers will be able to collect their share of $10,000 worth of gift cards by spending a total of $70 or more in Gymea Shopping Village.
Shoppers can claim one $10 card for each day they spend $70 or more from now until March 10 at shops, cafes, restaurants and other businesses.
Cards can be claimed by taking receipts collected during the period to the gift card station located outside the Commonwealth Bank on Gymea Bay Road on Mondays to Fridays, 9.30am to 4.30pm, and Saturdays, from 9am to 2pm.
The $70 amount can be made up of one or more transactions from multiple businesses on the same day.
One of the longest running businesses in Gymea Shopping Village is Gymea Lily, a kitchen and homewares shop which will take part in the promotion.
"Gymea Village is such a unique place," Gymea Lily owner Jo Morris said.
"Shire residents are lucky to have such a lovely community minded place to go for a shop or a meal that's also wonderfully fashionable and trendy and getting better all the time."
Gift cards will be valid for use at participating Gymea businesses until December 31, 2014.
