Re the article "F6 call has very familiar ring" (Leader, March 25).
The F6 extension is now that much closer, given that Mark Speakman and other south of Sydney MPs have combined to push the case for the F6 at state government level.
The NRMA has been a vocal advocate for this urgently needed piece of vital infrastructure. The MPs' call for the project to be "shovel ready" is the next step in the long drawn out stage.
Meanwhile, the south is being choked with local and through traffic. Travelling to and from the city takes shire motorists more time than any other area in metro Sydney.
Projected population increases will only highlight this penalty in coming years, with major impacts on the local community.
The "shovel ready" process will include extensive community input but the community must be vigilant to any proposal to under build the F6 extension, while also standing firm on the demands for a tunnel from near the Boulevard, Miranda, to Loftus.
Feedback indicates that the need for a tunnel is a community mandate and not negotiable.
Mark Speakman and other MPs are to be congratulated for this joint political task force to push for the F6.
For many reasons, the south of Sydney has been neglected by governments for decades, even given that in recent times the state government has received $5 billion from the lease of Port Botany and Port Kembla, both of which have a major traffic influence across the south.
It is now time for the community to show its support by signing a petition for presentation to the government by the combined local politicians.
I urge all residents to add their weight behind local MPs as government must listen to this reasonable request.
