Our planning proposal for land at Captain Cook Drive, Kurnell, does closely consider aircraft noise issues ("United opposition to Kurnell project", Leader, March 27).
In line with statewide planning policy on this issue, all new housing will be located in areas that are not adversely affected by aircraft noise.
The housing will meet relevant Australian noise standards without needing special construction techniques.
Sydney Airport's own forecasts show that over time, noise impacts will decrease both on this site and throughout Sydney because of the introduction of quieter aircraft.
In short, Besmaw's studies show that aircraft noise is not a constraint to badly needed new housing on this site.
The character of Kurnell is changing. Heavy industries that dominated the peninsula previously are moving or closing down — allowing a wider mix of land uses in the future. Sand mining also will finish eventually, so now is the time to update planning for the future development and use of this land.
