It was with a sad heart that I read about the caring centres maybe having to close (Leader, March 20).
Just on 40 years ago I was at the inaugural meeting to discuss forming a group to help people who left the Rehabilitation Centre at Sutherland Hospital to have somewhere to go for support.
This one group became many caring centres.
Over the years we have helped many people and I'm sure kept some of them going back to hospital.
After being a volunteer at the Loftus Caring Centre for more than 38 years, at 90 years old I'm still doing whatever I can to help our guests.
Just to hear the laughter and chatter each week has been a great pleasure for me.
