ORGANISERS of the Oatley West Public School Art and Craft Show pulled off another successful weekend, despite wet weather.
The event that began 35 years ago as an art show fund-raiser for the school has grown into a major festival to the point where a name change is on the agenda.
Parents & Citizens Association member Jamieson Louttit said though the art and jewellery still were major components, the three-day event had turned into a carnival-style festival, with 45 to 50 stalls and non-stop entertainment and activities throughout Saturday and Sunday and a formal opening on a Friday night.
"It's been called an arts and crafts show for the past 30 years but it could have a name change now," Mr Louttit said.
He said the festival's organisation involved 28 co-ordinators, an army of volunteers and at least 15,000 flyers sent to nearby residents. It raised a "significant" amount of money for the school.
About a fifth of the money would go towards extra days for special-needs teachers and the rest could be spent on playground equipment and other areas of need, Mr Louttit said.
