FUN RUN: A schools challenge to help encourage schools and students to get involved has been included in the Oatley Fun Run on Sunday, April 27. One local beneficiary will be the Cerebral Palsy Alliance at Penshurst, which organised some of the group of 18 young teens with cerebral palsy to take on a challenge — Krazy Kosci Klimb — and climbed to the top of Mount Kosciuszko. Organisers are expecting 1500 in the run.
‘‘The run has been voted as one of the best fun runs in NSW and is supported strongly by the proud residents and local businesses of the area,’’ said race director Jim Owens, ‘‘Funds raised are also being donated to local charities like local Scout groups and schools, and organisations who work with children in different ways.’’ Details: Sheree Webber, 0412 343 560 or Jim Owens, 0408 462 617.
SCHOOLBOY CRICKET:Kirrawee High caused an upset at Bathurst Showground by defeating The Hills Sports High to take out the final of the Davidson Shield — the first time a non-sports high school from Sutherland Shire has won the Davidson Shield (Endeavour Sports High in 2004 was the only other winner).
After sending The Hills in, Kirrawee dismissed their strong line-up for 114 and then scored singles off the last two balls of the match to win, with captain Harry Chapman hitting the winning run. The win was set up by opening bowler Lachlan Hess (an AWG player this season), who took 3-9 off his first 5 overs to have The Hills 3-20 — the three batsmen dismissed were all first graders including Jake Doran, who played for Australia Under 19s and NSW 2nd XI this season.
