SINGER-songwriter Luke O’Shea, of Sutherland Shire, and award-winning band Medicine Wheel will celebrate the local launch of his latest album — Sing You Up — on Thursday April 17, at the Brass Monkey, Cronulla.
O’Shea said that after launching the record in front of 15,000 people at the CMC Rocks the Hunter Festival, there was no place like home.
‘‘In saying that, sometimes even home needs help,’’ he said.
The title track of Sing You Up has become an anthem for Our Land Our Water Our Future and the Lock The Gate Alliance which are campaigning against coal seam gas mining in local water catchment areas.
‘‘If you don’t know what is going on in your own backyard, then it is time to get informed and there are some remarkable groups of people out there fighting a very good fight that really need your help,’’ O’Shea said.
He will be on a national and overseas tour for the rest of the year.
The first single off the album won O’Shea another two Golden Guitars, taking his tally to three.
He took home awards for the CMAA Australian Heritage Song of the Year and the coveted APRA Song of the Year.
His latest single — Three Brothers (The Great War) — has received strong radio support across the country, especially in the lead-up to the 100th anniversary of World War 1.
"I am fortunate enough to be able to tour through so many regional and rural communities within Australia, many of which have been frozen in time from when their young men marched out to the beating of a drum never to return,’’ he said.
Kim McKenzie and multi-award winner Aleyce Simmonds will be supporting O’Shea at Cronulla.
Doors open for The Sing You Up album launch at 7pm.
