GYMEA United Football Club has seen the completion of stage one of a building works program that is said to benefit both the club and the broader community.
Much of the funds for construction have been raised by the club through its extended family of about people including players, their families and supporters.
The start of the season coincided with the work.
As part of stage one of three stages, the spectator area in front of the community hall is now levelled and wheelchair accessible, under cover, elevated for a better view of the action along the entire eastern side of the buildings.
Stage two includes a women's change room and toilets.
"We see the ladies' change rooms as a logical next step for us with the highest female participation in the shire," said president Gary Wall.
"Stage two is already under way for the construction of ladies change rooms , which is a first in the shire.
"We really focus on our female players in this club so they'll have their won dedicated change room and facility."
With 124 teams, the club is the largest in the shire.
The improvements to the facilities were the result of a club-wide survey that asked members what they would like to see improved and the final stage of works at the oval will see an almost doubling in the size of the community hall.
"Overall, the benefit extends beyond the football community to all users of the public space," Wall said.
