HOTEL
For wilderness luxury, it's hard to go past El Questro in the Kimberley - vast landscapes, exquisite hospitality and croc-spotting from the dinner table. For an urban retreat, Upper House in Hong Kong is a perennial favourite - serene and generous design, high-rise views/high-society vibe, and great grub at Cafe Gray Deluxe. But for the sheer romance of travel it's Amangalla in Galle Fort for a century of hotel history and "soul and body" fairy dust courtesy of Aman.
AIRLINE
I've been increasingly impressed with Virgin. A trip across the US last month yielded on-demand cabin service and Wi-Fi, and in Australia, the days of wishing Tiffany happy birthday over the intercom are receding.
RESORT
I'm almost loath to call Alila Villas, Uluwatu in Bali a resort. True, it has cliff-top privacy, a 40-metre pool, signature spa, and yoga cabana overlooking the Indian Ocean, but its pool villas and faultless butler service make it all feel a little more luxury home away from home. It's a place for adults, mostly of the consciously coupling kind, but kids are in paradise too.
LUGGAGE
I chose my luggage a long time ago - a chestnut leather Ghurka holdall. I hate wheels. That said, I am contemplating an affair with a Tumi Santa Monica Bashford duffel in flax.
ACCESSORY
Despite the ubiquity of iPhone docking stations, I like to have a Bluetooth portable speaker with me too - just in case, and for other environments like beaches or trains. I was a classically trained musician, and good audio is a fetish.
NEXT ADVENTURE
To Beijing and Shanghai to start the LUXE journey in China. We're shuttling between cities on the high speed train.
