PLANS for the long-awaited lift and upgrade at Oatley station are open for community feedback.
Deputy Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Oatley MP Mark Coure, who announced the plans this month said if approved, work should start within a few months.
Mr Coure said he had been campaigning for the upgrade for 10 years, going back to his days on Kogarah Council.
He said he was keen to assure residents the days of negotiating those steep and narrow stairs would soon be over.
He said the upgrade would include lift and stair access to Oatley Parade, Mulga Road and the station platform.
There would be a pedestrian footbridge leading to Oatley Parade, an accessible toilet on the station platform, more commuter parking spaces and landscaped forecourts on Oatley Parade and Mulga Road.
‘‘Customer access will be improved through a reconfiguration of taxi and bus stop locations,’’ Mr Coure said.
‘‘Locals will also have the added convenience of a kiss-and-ride zone near the station and bus shelters on Oatley Parade and Mulga Road will be upgraded, along with lighting and CCTV cameras throughout the area to improve customer safety.’’
Ms Berejiklian said the upgrade would lift the whole appearance of the station precinct and improve the daily commute of all customers. Ms Berejiklian, who announced the Oatley upgrade in September 2012, could not say when the work would be completed.
‘‘I’m the sort of minister who wants to get it exactly right so I don’t want to gives dates until we know when the work will be finished,’’ she said.
