THERE are real fears that the Badgerys Creek airport announcement will affect funds for future F6 planning, says NRMA deputy president Michael Tynan.
Announcing the second airport earlier this month, the federal government promised to spend $1.2 billion on road infrastructure in the Badgerys Creek region over the next four years, and $2.9 billion over the next eight.
Of this, the state government was to contribute 20 per cent of road funding.
"The NRMA has real fears that the announcement of the second Sydney airport and the massive infrastructure needed from the state and federal government will once again take away funding needed for preliminary planning for the F6 extension," Mr Tynan said.
"I believe that the money is there to get the F6 shovel-ready.
"The federal election before last, the then- federal government made $20 million available to get the F6 shovel-ready to do all the planning.
"This included planning for a tunnel from The Boulevarde at Sutherland to Loftus, as well as community consultation and a transport study.
"Since the announcement, I have spoken to the NRMA which has said we have to be careful the money doesn't go out west."
The NRMA submission to the state government on the 2014-15 budget makes clear the need to make the funds available for the planning for the F6 extension, now called the M1 Princes Motorway Extension.
The NRMA submission says that funding for the WestConnex Motorway and NorthConnex Motorway link should be expanded to include the M1 Princes Motorway extension (F6) from Waterfall to St Peters, and a timetable should be identified for its construction.
"It is imperative that a plan to build the M1 Princes Motorway Extension is put in place with a timeline for its construction, and that the NSW government works with the federal government to secure funding for the three key projects to complete the Sydney Orbital road network," the submission says.
Should funding be guaranteed in the state budget for preliminary planning for the F6 extension?
