RUGBY LEAGUE: Canterbury skipper Michael Ennis is expected to join Cronulla, with an announcement expected in the next 24 hours. Ennis is considering a two-year deal from the Sharks. He lives in Sutherland Shire and knocked back a big contract offer from Canberra. With hookers John Morris and Isaac De Gois to retire at the end of the season, there is a vacancy at the Sharks. Ennis, 30, received only a one-year offer from the Bulldogs for 2015. And with Cronulla’s under-20s hooker Michael Lichaa joining the Bulldogs next season, the Sharks need to bolster the No.9 position.
Wanderers' star signing
FOOTBALL: Former Carss Park FC and Sutherland Sharks FC junior representative goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, 23, has signed with Western Sydney Wanderers. He will play with the A-League club for the next two years. He left Australia to play with Liverpool in 2007 in England. Bouzanis joins the Wanderers from Carlisle United in England. Despite having spent the past seven years in Europe, Bouzanis said joining the Wanderers was a no-brainer. ‘‘I’m excited to join the Wanderers because they have amazing fans,’’ he said. ‘‘They are the best fans in the Hyundai A-League and the recent success they’ve had at the football club is massive.’’ The Australian under-23 player also had stints with English sides Accrington Stanley and Oldham Athletic and with Aris in Greece. Bouzanis said the chance to learn under goalkeeping coach Ron Corry was not something he could turn down. ‘‘I’ve worked with Ron Cory before when he was at the Australian Institute of Sport and he’s a top goalkeeper coach who I can learn a lot from,’’ Bouzanis said.
