TWO newly upgraded playing fields at Cronulla High are ready for use by the Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks Junior Rugby League Club and the high school's students as part of the Bluestone-Sharks development.
Cronulla High students, Caringbah league players, Sharks members and water polo players inspected the fields on Tuesday. Bluestone is redeveloping the school's fields as the junior football club's training venue and a centre of sport excellence.
The junior football club will share the high school's sport and recreation grounds after moving from the Sharks' two western sports fields to make way for the Woolooware Bay development.
With the fields now completed at the high school, construction is about to start on the clubhouse for the Caringbah players. It will have a total value of around $3 million.
The second stage of the project, the water polo component including a 25-metre outdoor pool, will have a value of around $15 million.
Bluestone general manager Matt Crews said the relocation of the fields will provide the local community with a new sporting hub, and allow for the economic advancement of the area with a new town centre.
"We have a keen understanding of the importance of the identity of the club," Mr Crews said. "Accordingly, we are providing great new facilities, including a two-level clubhouse for local kids and athletes.
Cronulla High School principal Tony Ibrahim said the new fields are a great asset to the school and the community.
"A facility such as this gives our teachers and students access to a fantastic playing and teaching resource," he said.
