Re Peter Olsen's letter "Rates for new library" (Your View, June 19).
A library is far more than a place to find factual information.
Primarily libraries are there to promote the joy of reading for young and old.
A library is a community centre and as such it fufils a variety of needs.
Importantly it provides a quiet working environment for students.
Regular story-time for preschoolers introduces children to the wonder of fantasy.
Lectures on various topics of interest are held in the library.
Librarians and volunteers teach seniors how to use a computer and the internet . . . and the list goes on.
