HEATHCOTE teenager Daniel Michel has received a scholarship that will help him with his studies.
Daniel, 18, was one of four NSW recipients to win the Gregory and Dolores Farrell Scholarship given by the SpineCare Foundation.
Worth $5000 each, the scholarships assist tertiary students who use a wheelchair for mobility, to complete their studies.
Daniel, who was born with spinal muscular atrophy, is in his first year of a part-time commerce degree at the University of Wollongong (Loftus campus).
The former student of Heathcote High School said the money was a huge help.
"I was really grateful to receive it," he said.
"It will make a massive difference so I can complete my degree the same as any able-bodied person."
The funds will help Daniel with travel to the campus, and with study support.
He also plays boccia, a Paralympic sport that tests competitor's degree of muscle control and accuracy.
"I would love to combine my degree with my passion for sport in the future and work for an organisation that supports Paralympic sport," he said.
