AN interstate courtship between a young couple did not deter them from a marriage which has now gone on to mark its 60th year.
Angela, originally from Ingham, North Queensland, and Max, originally from Adelaide, met in Angela's home town in 1953 — 12 months before their wedding.
After a long distance courtship, they married in the Greek Orthodox Church at Paddington. Max worked as a stevedore on Sydney Harbour wharves for 35 years.
Angela worked at the Navy stores at Zetland and then at Grace Bros, Broadway, for 20 years.
The couple settled at Marrickville where they lived for 30 years, raising three children before moving to their present home at Bexley.
They have told family and friends that trust and space were the keys to a successful marriage.
They enjoy having friends visit, social outings and spending time with their six grandchildren.
