UNIVERSITY graduate William Chan, of Hurstville, has been chosen as a young ambassador for UNICEF Australia.
Mr Chan, 24, was one of 10 young people aged 15-24 to be selected for the program.
A recent graduate from the University of Sydney, he was picked from more than 250 applicants to take on a role in the organisation's media team.
He will join a group of child rights advocates from around the nation.
A passionate human rights advocate, Mr Chan said he was inspired to work with other young representatives, especially those in developing nations.
"A few years ago I was in South Africa for a month working in a slum, and being able to experience that has driven my passion to help others," he said.
"As an ambassador, I hope to achieve a more realistic understanding of child rights issues in Australia and abroad.
"Then I can share this with other young Australians, to get them active so we can work towards educating and promoting [children's] rights."
The ambassadors will speak about things they believe are unjust.
"We should listen to kids because it is important they have a voice, especially when decision-makers are dealing with issues that relate to children," Mr Chan said.
