INDIGENOUS art, Aboriginal performances and children's craft workshops were out in a vibrant display last week for annual events to mark the contributions of the nation's indigenous Australians.
Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation and Sutherland Shire Council hosted National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week at Gunnamatta Park Pavilion, Cronulla, on July 10.
About 300 people came.
The theme — Serving Country: Centenary and Beyond — honoured indigenous people who have fought in defence of the nation.
A major attraction was a colourful art showcase by Aboriginal artists with strong cultural ties to the community.
Artist and chairwoman of Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation, Deanna Schreiber, said the week was increasingly recognised by all schools, workplaces and govern-ment agencies.
"It is such a special time during NAIDOC, and to see the community come together and enjoy all our culture has to offer is fantastic," she said.
