A SUTHERLAND resident has forfeited his chance to sell his old car so he can help a charity that houses homeless youth.
Scott Whittaker, 43, who works in the television industry, heard about the scheme on the radio.
"I've never done anything like this before; I needed to get a new car anyway, " he said.
The car is a 2000 white Holden Commodore, worth about $5000.
The money from the auction will go to the Kids Under Cover (KUC) Donate Your Car program which has an auction partner, Manheim Auctions.
All proceeds go to building homes and providing scholarships and mentors for homeless and at-risk young people aged 12 to 25.
More than 3400 cars have been donated since its inception in 2006.
Businesses and individuals can join the program which takes on unwanted motorised vehicles, cars, caravans, trucks, motorbikes and boats. Donated vehicles are collected free by Manheim and all vehicle donations are tax deductible.
KUC's Studio Program provides demountable dwellings built on the grounds of the family/carer's home.
