Regarding the closure of the Balmoral area walking trail at Mortdale because of the council’s fear of residents being hit by golf balls straying from Hurstville Golf Course’s 14th tee.
The trail should be re-opened immediately and the 14th hole made ‘‘out of bounds’’ by the removal of the cup and flag from the 14th green.
Recognising that the golf club wants to use the hole on Saturdays, Sundays and pennant days, the greenkeeper would cut a new hole in the green late each Friday.
Then, each Monday morning, he would refill the hole and remove the flag, preventing illegal weekday play.
Bold signage would explain to players that the closure is temporary but necessary.
Everyone will be happy once the security netting is installed.
