MOVE over Tour de France riders: the biggest cycle race has been on Sutherland Shire roads in recent days.
Southern Cross Cycle Club's annual two-day road event had 200 riders competing.
The club recently hosted the NSW Metropolitan and Country Road Championships for the juniors in the under-9s to under-17s' age groups, on the first day.
Then on the second day the Southern Cross Junior Open, from under-9s to under-17s, was also held.
Club president Colin Goldsmith said the event was held on the club's one kilometre and 1½-kilometre road circuits through Sutherland.
Riders started in Waratah Park.
"The annual event had 200 each day, and they came from the metropolitan region, NSW country areas and the ACT," Goldsmith said.
He said the opening day's racing was granted to them to host on Cycling NSW's behalf.
Goldsmith said the club promoted their organisation for families.
"We race all year round at Waratah Park, with our masters riders racing every Sunday at 8am and the juniors at 9am," he said.
"We have 150 members and have boys, girls, men's and women's members."
