TENDERS have been called for the long-awaited lift and upgrade at Oatley railway station.
Oatley MP Mark Coure said it was expected that a contract would be awarded in September and the project to begin in earnest by the end of the year.
"Subject to approvals, some preliminary work will take place within Douglas Cross Gardens shortly," he said.
"It will include removing the existing bus shelter in Oatley Parade and installing a temporary one nearby.
"We aim to complete the work as quickly as possible and keep disruptions to a minimum."
The proposed design includes a pedestrian footbridge, with lifts to link the new station forecourts in Oatley Parade and Mulga Road to the existing station platforms.
Footpath upgrades, additional cycle storage facilities and landscaping are included.
Plans were announced in April and the community was invited to provide feedback.
