ROCKDALE City Suns and St George FC were beaten but Sutherland Sharks showed plenty of bite in their victory in round 18 of the Football NSW Men’s Elite One competition.
The Suns lost 0-2 to Apia Leichhardt Tigers at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday.
Sydney United 58 FC won 2-1 against St George FC at Sydney United Sports Ground, also on Sunday.
But Sutherland Sharks beat Manly United 3-1 at Seymour Shaw Park on Saturday night.
The Sharks hit the lead in the 18th minute courtesy of an own goal from Manly’s Rhys Williams and it stayed that way until half-time.
But it was the Sharks who finished off strongest, as goals from Lukas Stergiou and Nathan Elasi secured the three valuable points to Robbie Stanton’s men.
It was an emotional night for one Sharks player, defender Perry Moustakas, who played his final match for the club before returning to Cyprus where he will continue his football in the second division.
The Sharks are fourth on 29 points, the Suns are fifth on 28 points and St George FC are last on 13 points.
