Rockdale Council is consulting the community on whether or not it should go ahead with a 12-month trial of an off-leash dog area at Monterey.
The council did a review last year of exercising of dogs in the region.
It introduced a new Exercising of Dogs Policy and changes to off-leash dog exercise areas.
One of the changes was the trial new off leash dog exercise area at Civic Avenue Reserve, and a proposed a survey of residents living close to the dog exercise area at Monterey foreshore.
The council is considering a 12 month trial of a timed designated off-leash dog exercise area between Solander Street and Banks Street.
This means that between 4pm and 10am every day people will be able to exercise their dogs on that part of the beach without a leash.
On its website, the council said it prides itself on providing a network of high quality public open spaces for the enjoyment by many types of users, including dog owners and handlers.
But nearby residents said there was some concern about safety.
The council is seeking community feedback on the proposed trial until Friday.
A report is expected to be submitted for the council's consideration in September.
Should the trial go ahead?
