A FOUR-man team of former British and Australian commando soldiers and athletes will attempt to complete the Kokoda Track — army (hard routine) jungle patrol-style — in six days, with minimal support and carrying their own equipment weighing up to 35 kilograms a load.
The Operation Peace Warriors trek is an extreme test of endurance aimed at raising funds and awareness to support Enough Is Enough's anti-violence movement and counselling services.
They hope to complete the trek on July 23 — the anniversary of the day Diggers had their first action on the track in World War II.
The team comprises Simon Reynolds, of Helensburgh, who was a British commando for 16 years; ex-Australian commando Neil Wilcock; Commonwealth Games gold medallist and long-distance runner Andy Lloyd; and British fitness instructor Archie Reynolds (Simon's nephew).
Trek sponsors include Zero Risk International, a security consultancy firm.
"We are aiming to raise at least $10,000 for Enough is Enough," Mr Reynolds said.
"I know of Sutherland Shire families who have been helped by them over the years.
"Their work is close to everyone and they need to be supported, especially after experiencing massive cuts to funding. We are struggling for support and sponsorship but we will achieve our mission."
