Regarding Gavin Ewer's comment (Your View, July 8) about political bias in appointments to government-controlled bodies or agencies.
Has he done any research at all into the antecedents and/or political leanings of the myriad appointments by the two previous Labor ministries to these bodies?
To go really far back, what about the appointment of the Labor "mate," Lionel Murphy, to the High Court? Or that master move which came unstuck, the appointment of Sir John Kerr, considered at the time, to be left-leaning, as governor-general? Or what about Bill Hayden?
Gavin, the two people you mentioned are only two members of a larger panel with purely advisory duties. The sooner the ABC can demonstrate publicly and convincingly that it is completely impartial, the better for the long-suffering, taxpaying public.
