Three Sylvanvale clients will give a presentation at Sutherland on Monday night, July 28, about what the National Disability Insurance Scheme means to people with a disability.
The event is part of the University of Sydney’s Centre for Disability Research and Policy and looks at issues by people with a disability for people with a disability.
The event will include information about planning, what happens next and how individuals and families can prepare for the changes.
Leigh said she was looking forward to sharing her experiences with the wider community.
‘‘I wanted to be able to tell others about the importance of learning how to make decisions,’’ she said.
‘‘You’ve got a voice and you have control.’’
Alex, Mark and Leigh were chosen to represent Sylvanvale.
‘‘It has been a good experience. I used to be quite shy and not talk [to other clients],’’ Leigh said.
‘‘Since I learned about the scheme, I am talking.
‘‘I find I pick things up pretty quickly.’’
Mark and Leigh also went to Tokyo last year where they presented their methodology at the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Development Disabilities Asia-Pacific Conference at Waseda University.
Their presentation was an abstract of the University of Sydney Inclusive Research Program which explores conceptual, theoretical, methodological and policy and practice issues.
The event starts at 7pm; RSVP: 8536 0100 or email: reception@sylvanvale.com.au
